The concept of Lab Scale line for carbon fiber is based on flexibility, speed and scalability to change and modify equipment parameters for the needs of customers in Carbon Fiber research for experimentation with traditional or emerging precursors, process tweaking and development of samples for up to 1 tons per year. With state of the art fiber handling system it can accommodate line speeds ranging from 0.1 m/min to over 1 m/min and tows from 10 filaments to 48000 filaments, enabling the study of effects of various process parameters using a small amount of precursor. The heat treatment system is the ideal size for research and development as well as quality control, with continuous processing of up to 3 tows. It is highly customizable and can be configured as a complete system including Oxidation Ovens, LT and HT furnaces up to 1600°C, material handling equipment, and all pre and post treatment process stages found on commercial scale plants. The systems allow for maximum manipulation of key process parameters, including controlling tension after each unit operation and multiple zones of temperature control in oxidation, pre-carbonization and carbonization. The drive systems are designed for precision control of the forces imparted to the fiber, allowing for flexibility in tow counting, loading, and drive position. This flexibility yields greater customization of oxidation for Carbon Fiber research activities, with adjustability zone by zone, pass by pass, and carbonization. Advanced design features designed to better assist in research goals and future scale-up include:

  • Precise pressure and temperature data from every oven pass

  • The ability bring up to temperature and stabilize quicker

  • Controls that better analyze and adjust atmosphere and off gassing conditions

  • Low minimum loading point to enable research on minimal filament counts

 

The system for Carbon Fiber research includes all of these highly customizable operations:

  • Oxidation Oven: Up to 300°C, with multiple zones of control

  • LT and HT Furnaces: Pre-carbonization and Carbonization: Up to 1000°C and 1600°C respectively, with multiple zones of control, atmospherically controlled

  • Creel: Up to (8) positions

  • Drive Stands: Multiple locations throughout the system

  • Pretreatment, Surface Treatment & Sizing Systems: single or multiple dip

  • Control Systems: with advanced configuration for preferences regarding remote access and data historian

  • Material Handling, including for emerging precursors including those requiring belt transport

Overall plant footprint for an example line as shown here is approximately 40m L x 10m W x 4m H. Start-up for the equipment from ambient conditions takes 8 to 12 hours. Shut down can occur in a shorter time frame. To optimize the life of the equipment and minimize thermal cycling, we recommend that the LT and HT furnaces be at idled at temperature for short downtime durations (i.e. over a weekend) for cleaning the deposits in cooler section of furnaces. This also optimizes power, when considering the requirements for heat-up.

    AntsProsys RTA furnace is a compact rapid thermal processing tube furnace with a processing quartz tube and vacuum flanges. It is designed for annealing semiconductor wafers or solar cells with diameters from 2” to up to 6".     AntsProsys dental furnace is equipped with 4 robust high-quality heating elements made of MoSi2. The furnaces are made with vacuum formed insulation of best grade to ensure they can be heated and cooled very fast to provide for fast turnaround times. With uniform heat distribution these furnaces provide best results and minimum maintenance issues in long run. The dental crowns and frameworks are placed in sintering trays which are filled with a bed of zirconium support beads. The trays are designed to fit exactly in the furnace chamber. The bed of zirconia beads allows for a sintering process with low friction and results in distortion-free frameworks. The dental furnace is equipped with a programmer with four individually configurable programs with 4 ramp/dwell segments. The maximum temperature of 1550 °C allows the majority of commercially available zirconium oxides to be processed. Any interruption to the sintering process, for example by a power failure, is displayed by the programmer. This ensures that the sintering process of the dental furnace is completed correctly and the crowns and frameworks have the desired density and stability. The dental furnace is supplied complete with sintering tray and support beads.

    This furnace is to stir sample during heating or melting to get a more uniform reaction. The rocking stage can set rocking frequency and time for automatically running with simultaneous programmed heat treatment.     This type of split type rotary tube furnaces are particularly suitable for processes like calcination, dehumidification, klinker formation etc. where the material is to be heat treated for a short or limited duration. For this the rotary tube furnace is positioned slightly inclined starting with cold zone to target temperature zone and then again to cold zone. The material is then continuously supplied at the upper end of the tube. It passes through the heated area of the tube and falls on the lower end out of the tube. Residence time in the heated zone depends on the degree of inclination and the rotating speed (which can be controlled by the customer) and the length of the working tube, in addition to the flow properties of the material. The design of the split furnace, drive system and feeder/ collection assemblies allows the work tube to be easily removed and replaced.  To use the furnace under protective gas environment, an optional closed loading system for 3 liter input and output chamber size can be provided. Depending on process, material and required maximum temperature, working tubes made of quartz glass, ceramics or metal can be used. Above features make this rotary furnace highly adaptable.

    Thermal treatment of materials in protective gas or vacuum is a commonly used process in material science. Besides its function to prevent oxidation, gas and mixtures of gases can be used to modify material surface, e.g. nitrating or carbonising. In general, two different designs of furnaces for thermal treatment can be distinguished: A “cold-wall” design and a “hot-wall” design. In “cold-wall” furnaces the heater and the insulation are installed inside a vacuum or gas tight chamber. In a “hotwall” system a vacuum and/or gastight retort, so-called muffle, is heated from the outside. The design of the antsProsys furnace line is based on the “hot-wall” principle. The heating system consists of spirals of Kanthal A1© wire or APM© wire. These wires are placed in notches of the inner insulation, which is usually made of ceramic light bricks. Micro porous material on the backside complete the insulation. This whole unit is encaged in a metal frame. A gap between the frame and the outside housing, filled with air, leads to an additional insulation effect. This design limits the maximum surface temperature of the furnace to 50°C above room temperature. In the standard configuration the furnace is heated from three sides and also from the bottom. Additional heaters can be installed on ceramic tubes at the roof of the furnace. A furnace with this improved heating power allows an operation at elevated temperatures up to 1200°C or a faster heating cycle with heavy loads.

    The Bridgman method uses a pre-synthesized material that moves slowly through a temperature gradient. The melted material moves through a decreasing temperature gradient and forms a single crystal. antsProsys offers multi-zone vertical tube furnaces which are mounted on a pulling device engineered specifically for the Bridgman method. The short heated multiple hot zone length creates an accurate and ideal gradient for the Bridgman method. The temperature decreases towards the bottom of the furnace. The pulling motor lowers the sample with an adjustable speed toward the lower temperature. As an option, close to the sample is a thermocouple can be placed for accurate reading of the sample temperature. Both, sample and probe thermocouple are attached to the sample lowering device. The movement of the sample can be fast for loading and unloading or with a user defined speed for crystal growth.

    The high temperature Bridgman Crystal Growth Furnace includes heating elements of MoSi2 that are mounted in a vertical, hanging position. Depending on the melting point of the sample, the maximum temperature is designed up to 1600 °C, 1700 °C, or 1800 °C.

    Vertical Tubular Furnace having 4 Nos of independent heating zone, will be mounted on a rigid platform made of Powder Coated MS Plates, channels, and angles. Double Walled Tubular Furnace having four-six independently controlled heating elements.

    Outer Chamber:
    The furnace will be constructed out of thick gauge Stainless steel 304 L. Outer shell reinforced with angle and channel iron framework to make the equipment mechanically rigid. Double skinned construction allows convection air flow to cool the outer case.
